Self Care Treatments To Try At Home

Self Care Treatments To Try At Home

In stressful times, it’s more important than ever to create time for self care. Not only is managing stress important for your mental health, in the long term, but it can also be beneficial to your physical health as well. To set you on the path to wellness, we’ve compiled seven mini treatments to try at home. Practice one of these rituals a day – or mix and match – to enhance your overall health and well-being:

  1. Fruit-Infused Water & Herbal Tea
  2. Hand Massage
  3. Aromatherapy Shower
  4. Body Scrub
  5. Mask & Milk Bath
  6. Dry Brushing
  7. Meditation

Fruit-Infused Water & Herbal Tea

Fruit-infused water and herbal tea encourage you to slow down and savor the moment. Plus, their ingredients boast plenty of benefits for mind and body health. Sip them morning and night for hydration and replenishment.

Detox Water
“Detox” water is infused with fresh fruits, vegetables or herbs, usually overnight. While it won’t necessarily detoxify your system, it will provide the hydration your body needs to function at its best (plus, it’s delicious). Here are a few of our favorite fruit-infused water combinations:

  • Cucumber + Mint
  • Strawberry + Basil
  • Grapefruit + Rosemary
  • Berry + Green Tea

Herbal Tea
Herbal tea, on the other hand, is well-known for its lengthy list of health benefits. These brews, which have been used in traditional medicine for centuries, are brimming with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Herbal teas have the potential to relieve stress, calm your mind and body, support brain health and boost your immune system. Here are two of our favorite blends:

  • Chamomile + Lavender (soothes and relaxes the mind and body)
  • Peppermint + Lemon (promotes focus and boosts mental performance)

Hand Massage

No time for a full body massage? No worries. An easy way to unwind is to give yourself a five-minute hand massage. This type of massage not only releases tension after a day spent typing and texting but also calms the nervous system and enhances circulation. Here’s how to perform one at home:

  1. Warm a few drops of your favorite body oil or lotion between your palms. Our pick: Stone Crop Body Oil, which is infused with stone crop and arnica and is ideal for massage treatments.
  2. Begin with your palm facing up and firmly press the tip of each finger.
  3. Use the thumb of the opposite hand to rub the muscles surrounding your palm with gentle, circular motions. Pay particular attention to the fleshy area between your thumb and wrist as well as at the base of your fingers.
  4. Slowly knead the center of your palm.
  5. Slide your thumb down your palm in long, straight strokes. Focus on the space between each tendon, starting at the base of your fingers and ending at your wrist.
  6. Flip your hand over and repeat step four along the back of your hand.
  7. Palm up, rub each individual finger using small, counter-clockwise motions and moving from the base of the finger to the tip.
  8. Switch hands.

Aromatherapy Shower

Add a relaxing step to your daily routine, by incorporating an aromatherapy element to your daily shower. According to Healthline, “inhaling the aromas from essential oils can stimulate areas of your limbic system, which is a part of your brain that plays a role in emotions, behaviors, sense of smell and long-term memory.” Creating an at-home aromatherapy shower is simple:

  1. Spray your favorite essential oil blend onto a washcloth
  2. Tuck it into a corner of your shower
  3. Let the water run for 5-10 minutes
  4. Step into the oil-infused steam
  5. Take a deep breath and relax into the present moment

Not sure which essential oil to choose? Try these selections for a relaxing, stimulating or balancing soak:

  • Relaxing: neroli, jasmine, ylang ylang
  • Stimulating: citrus oils, rosemary, eucalyptus
  • Balancing: lavender, clary sage, bergamot

Applying a body scrub has plenty of benefits for the skin

  1. Promotes efficient circulation and skin cell turnover
  2. Removes dead cells from the skin’s surface
  3. Smooths and softens rough, dry skin
Draws out impurities and clears congestion
  4. Frees ingrown hairs and smooths razor bumps

Mask & Milk Bath

If a bath is more your style, follow Cleopatra’s lead and sink into a soothing milk bath. Adding milk to your bath water has plenty of benefits. Milk is packed with healthy fats, proteins, lactic acid, vitamins and minerals which help to soften and soothe dry, itchy skin.

To make a milk bath:

  1. Add 1-2 cups of milk to a full tub of warm water
  2. Mix in your favorite body oil (we recommend our ultra-hydrating Apricot Body Oil)
  3. Add extras like rose petals, herbs, honey and/or oats
  4. Let ingredients soak for 15 minutes
  5. Step in, sit back and relax

To truly indulge, apply your favorite Eminence Organics face mask. The Rosehip & Maize Exfoliating Masque combines rosehips, lemon juice, maize flour and honey to smooth and revitalize your skin’s appearance. Apply a thin layer with your fingertips and leave on while you soak into your milk bath. Afterward, remove the mask with a damp cloth to reveal a radiant-looking complexion.

Meditation

It’s no secret that meditation is incredibly beneficial for mind and body health. For thousands of years, it has been celebrated for its ability to train the mind to focus, stay in the present moment and gain a deeper awareness of self and surroundings.

With regular practice, meditation has been shown to impart the following benefits:

  • Relaxes the mind and body
  • Lowers cortisol levels and relieves stress
  • Increases feelings of positivity and happiness
  • Enhances communication and decision-making
  • Improves memory and focus

Unsure how to start a meditation practice? Try adding five minutes of mindful breathing to your daily routine:

    1. Sit comfortably
    2. Close your eyes and relax your body
    3. Slowly inhale through your nose and out your mouth
    4. Breathe deeply, filling your lungs and expanding your diaphragm
    5. Focus on the sensation of breath entering and leaving your body
    6. Follow your breath in and out for five minutes
    7. When your mind wanders, return to your breath

    Dry Brushing

Another body treatment to try at home is dry brushing. This ancient technique has gained popularity over the years for its ability to boost circulation, detoxify the skin and reduce the appearance of cellulite. And, it’s incredibly easy to do at home! Here’s how:

    1. Step into the shower (but don’t turn on the water)
    2. Reach for a body brush with stiff, natural bristles
    3. Brush your body using long, sweeping motions
    4. Begin at your feet and move upward, toward the direction of your heart
    5. Brush each area several times; overlap as you go
    6. Rinse away dead skin and debris

Follow your dry brush with a toning body cream that will continue to target areas of concern. The Stone Crop Contouring Body Cream contains extracts of microalgae and coffee to smooth skin and improve the look of cellulite. Massage it into cleansed skin, focusing on problem areas, and leave on.

Extend Results from a Spa Treatment

How To Extend Results From A Spa Treatment

It’s no secret that Eminence Organics Skin Care has results-driven professional treatments but to maximize results, effective home care products are also necessary. When trying to determine the best treatments for yourself, there are some clear pairings of treatments and home care but also some hidden gems. Read on for suggestions of the best products to combine with a monthly Rejuvalase Spa Facial treatment or body treatment that lasts longer.

    Long Lasting Facials

Professional facial treatments are a must have to supercharge progress and reach skin care goals. An at-home skin care routine is important to extend these treatments and is even more essential if spa visits are irregular.

As the ultra-glowy results from a facial only last for about 30 days, a detailed home care routine will keep the progression moving forward instead of falling back, ensuring that our clients at Rejuvalase see results. Tips that help support professional treatment include:

    1. Increasing water intake: A facial is like a workout for your skin, and just like any workout, hydration is key. Drinking lots of water pre and post-facial are key to a healthy-looking complexion and are especially important if steam or heat is used as part of the treatment.

    2. Using SPF: It goes without saying that SPF is needed every day, but it is even more important after a facial. It may seem obvious, but SPF is a crucial part of the after-care of a facial and is necessary to protect the skin.

    3. Skipping immediate exfoliation: Most likely, a facial incorporates some level of exfoliation that is deeper than exfoliating at home. In order to keep the skin healthy, clients shouldn’t exfoliate at home two full days before and after a facial.

    4. Using gentle products: Not only is it important to skip exfoliation but using strong treatments, masks, cleansers or other actives immediately before or after a facial is not advisable. The day before and after, gentle products should be used to keep the skin balanced and strong.

    Recommendations For Each Skin Type

Now, let’s talk product pairings. While a full facial treatment will typically comprise of several professional use products, the recommendations below are ideal retail products that perfectly support your Rejuvalase Spa Facial treatment.

    Normal Skin

Those with a normal skin type may feel they have too many options to choose from. For a noticeable glow and smaller pores, the Eminence Organics Mangosteen Collection is a sure thing. At home, daily cleansing and treatment with our Mangosteen Daily Resurfacing Cleanser and Mangosteen Daily Resurfacing Concentrate perfectly complement the professional treatment, continuing to deliver our proprietary Lactic Acid Complex between your Rejuvalase Medspa visits.

    Dry Skin

Not only great for dry skin types, but this combo will also work wonders for those with dehydrated or fatigued skin. For daily use at home, Eminence Citrus & Kale Potent C+E Serum applied beneath the Naseberry Treatment Cream will deliver thorough hydration with no irritation. Additionally, applying Eminence decadent smelling Sour Cherry Masque once or twice a week will leave the skin feeling firm and looking radiant.

    Combination or Oily Skin

Anyone with a combination or oily skin type looking to reduce sebum, while keeping the skin hydrated, will fall in love with the Menthol Rosehip Treatment.  To keep the skin looking even and bright, we recommend Eminence lightweight Rosehip Whip Moisturizer and award-winning Facial Recovery Oil. While the use of oil may alarm those with an oily skin type, this product is suitable for all skin types and contains clary sage – ideal for balancing oil.

    Sensitive Skin

This self-neutralizing peel is completely non-irritating and will leave the skin feeling soft and smooth. For home care, Eminence Calm Skin Collection is brilliant for comforting red, dry skin and keeping the skin looking balanced. Specifically, the Eminence Organics Calm Skin Chamomile Cleanser, Calm Skin Chamomile Exfoliating Peel and Calm Skin Chamomile Moisturizer are must-haves to get you through until your next facial. In addition to soothing dry skin, the Calm Skin Chamomile Exfoliating Peel will continue to slough off dead skin cells, prolonging the feeling of a smooth complexion gained from the Mangosteen Lactic Pro Peel 10%.

    How To Apply Eye Cream

    How To Apply Eye Cream

Crow’s feet, under eye bags, dark circles… the eye area can be a pileup of your worst skin care nightmares. Because this area is delicate and particularly vulnerable to skin issues, it’s important to apply eye cream properly.

Concerned that you’re doing it wrong? Here’s the Eminence Organics guide on how to use eye cream correctly and why you even need it in the first place:

What To Do Before You Apply

It sounds simple, but one of the first things you should do is prepare the area before application. Make sure you wipe away all traces of makeup with Eminence Organics Herbal Eye Makeup Remover or an oil-based cleanser like Stone Crop Cleansing Oil. If you’re sporting eyelash extensions, we recommend our Herbal Eye Makeup Remover for lifting away all signs of makeup without damaging your fragile extensions. After cleansing, you may also want to use Eminence Organics Naseberry Eye Exfoliant. This award-winning product exfoliates gently with fruit enzymes, improving and toning the texture of your skin.

How To Apply Eye Cream – Regular

The best way to learn how to apply eye cream properly is to watch the video above as Lead Skin Care Trainer Natalie Pergar demonstrates her technique:

    1. Pump or dispense a pea-sized amount of eye cream
    2. Use ring finger to pat under the eye area. Because it is the weakest finger, the ring finger will apply the least amount of pressure on this delicate skin. According to Allure, a gentle application for eye cream is essential.
    3. For dry eye areas, pat the cream over the brow bone. This additional application should provide extra moisture your skin may need.
    4. Use at night and day, as needed.

How To Apply Eye Cream – Rollerball

Natalie also demonstrates how to use a rollerball style eye cream in the video above with Eminence Organics Hibiscus Ultra Lift Eye Cream. Here is the Eminence Organics technique for a rollerball-type eye cream:

    1. Pump a pea-sized amount of eye cream.
    2. Sweep under the eye in a circular motion twice.
    3. Then massage in a circular motion all around the eye, including the brow bone.
    4. Use day and at night, as needed.

Along with hibiscus and ice wine actives, the stainless steel rollerball in Eminence Organics Hibiscus Ultra Lift Eye Cream has a cooling effect which helps rapidly depuff the eye. Want to super boost that soothing rollerball? Just leave it in the fridge to add an extra chill to your application.

    Do I Need Eye Cream?

According to WebMD, eye creams are formulated for this delicate skin and are thicker to provide extra protection. You may ask yourself why you need a specialized eye cream and whether an extra dose of regular moisturizer could do the same job. The reason why you need eye cream is that the fragile skin around your eye has an entirely different structure than the skin elsewhere on your face. According to WebMD, eye creams are formulated for this delicate skin and are thicker to provide extra protection. They also contain more actives that target specific eye area issues. If you’re looking to deflate puffiness, combat crow’s feet or fight those fine lines, creams explicitly designed for the eye area should be an essential part of your skincare routine.
