What is SkinPen?

SkinPen by Crown Aesthetics is the first FDA-cleared microneedling device in the world, clinically proven to safely and effectively treat facial acne scars for ages 22 and up. With as few as three non-invasive and affordable treatments spaced 30 days apart, you can improve your appearance for six months after your last treatment – and step out with confidence.

Why use it?

SkinPen is clinically proven to reduce the appearance of acne scars. In fact, 90% of subjects in the clinical trial would recommend the treatment to friends and family. It’s a minimally invasive procedure performed in-office with little downtime. As the first FDA-cleared microneedling device, SkinPen sets the industry standard for safety.

Will it work for me?

Unlike some alternatives, SkinPen has been clinically proven to be effective for women and men with skin ranging from light to very dark. Likewise, unlike lasers or chemical peels that can damage skin over the long term, SkinPen treatments, when properly spaced, can be used for years.

How does it work?

SkinPen creates hundreds to thousands of “micro” skin punctures per second to stimulate the skin’s natural wound healing process – inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling – to prompt tissue remodeling without causing scar tissue formation.2 Most patients can return to normal activities within 24 hours.

How can I make it more effective?

While SkinPen treatments are effective on their own, you might be able to see additional results with Crown Aesthetics’ Skinfuse® Post-Treatment Kit. The 90-day combination of PURIFY Cleansing Complex, RESCUE Calming Complex, FORTIFY Vita C Serum, RECLAIM Hydrating Support, and SHIELD Zinc Oxide SPF 30 optimizes the results of microneedling.

Is it safe?

Yes, by design. SkinPen’s patent-pending – and single-use – sterile needle cartridge is built with safety in mind. SkinPen is also surrounded by a proprietary BioSheath that acts as a barrier to prevent cross contamination between procedures. That’s part of the reason SkinPen by Bellus Medical is the world’s first FDA-cleared microneedling device.

Here’s what you can expect from a SkinPen treatment:

  • A plan for optimal results. Your provider may recommend a course of procedures based on your individual goals. Maintenance of your procedure might require multiple treatments.
  • A comfortable procedure. Based on your needs, your physician will likely apply a topical numbing agent to the treatment area.
  • A short procedure time. The treatment will likely take about 30 minutes.
  • A mild sensation. Most patients report feeling only the slight vibration of SkinPen during the procedure.
  • Minimal post-procedure effects. The skin will appear slightly pink to red immediately post-procedure, similar to a mild to moderate sunburn. Additionally, the most common treatment responses experienced were dryness, rough skin, tightness, redness, itching, peeling, discomfort, tenderness, and burning. These conditions resolved over time without any further complications.
  • Soothing aftercare. Your clinician will provide Skinfuse® LIFT, a clean, non-cytotoxic hydrogel used to prevent the skin from drying out post-treatment.
  • An effective post-procedure protocol. Your provider will recommend an aftercare regimen. Ask about Skinfuse, Bellus Medical’s 90-day protocol specifically formulated to support your skin following microneedling.

The day of the procedure:

  • Unexpected complications may occur when products not proven safe for use with microneedling are applied post-procedure.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise or excessive perspiration, as excess blood flow and sweat can cause discomfort and irritation to compromised skin for 72 hours.
  • Skinfuse® Lift HG may be applied additionally the day of the procedure to assist with skin hydration. Re-apply, as needed, up to 24 hours post procedure.
  • Strictly avoid sun exposure as you will not be wearing sunscreen. You may return to sunscreen use 24 hours following the procedure. Continue to minimize sun exposure for 72 hours following the procedure.

The days following the procedure:

  • Follow the specific skincare regimen provided with your Skinfuse Post-Procedure Protocol.
  • Wait at least 7 days post-procedure to begin Surge Collagen Boost.
